“Captain Miller,” starring Dhanush in the title role, debuted in theaters yesterday (Jan 12). In addition to having a huge opening at the box office, the much awaited historical drama also had special morning showings in a few other states besides Tamil Nadu.
The movie received great reviews from its early morning showings, which raised expectations for its later opening-day showings. The movie “Captain Miller” reportedly made about Rs 13 crore worldwide, even with a working day release. On its first day, the picture had an average occupancy of 80%.

“Captain Miller” reportedly made between Rs. 6 and 6.5 crore on its opening day in Tamil Nadu, but because movie starred leading Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar in a significant role, it looked quite powerful at the Karnataka box office on opening day. “Captain Miller,” which opened on more than 900 screens worldwide, had a respectable opening weekend.
It is estimated that the movie made over Rs 4 crore overseas on its first day of sales. The overall amount raised on the first day of release of Dhanush’s film has decreased due to its non-release in Telugu states. But for “Captain Miller,” the Pongal holidays in Tamil Nadu on Monday and Tuesday will make for a hectic weekend. The movie is expected to wrap up week one on Monday.
“Captain Miller,” starred Dhanush, has outperformed Sivakarthikeyan’s flick at the box office, earning about Rs 2 crore more than the latter.

Guntur Karam 1st Day box office collections:
Guntur Kaaram, starring Mahesh Babu, broke box office records with its groundbreaking debut, giving the superstar his best-ever opening day. Sarkaru Vaari Paata’s 2022 record of Rs. 41 crore was surpassed by the film’s approximate Friday gross of Rs. 47 crore. With a total revenue of about Rs. 42 crore, the Telugu states accounted for nearly all of it, surpassing SVP’s earnings of Rs. 36.25 crore. Babu’s highest ever Telugu states’ first day is the fourth-highest of all time, after Baahubali: The Conclusion, Salaar, and RRR.
In the larger centers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Guntur Kaaram fared the best. The first day of the biggest of them all, Hyderabad, brought in over Rs. 14 crore, making it the third-highest opening day ever. RRR and Salaar, both of which made over Rs. 15 crore, came in second and third place.
But Nizam’s outlying centers disappointed severely, which is why it came in considerably short of RRR and Salaar and under Rs. 20 crore.
In a similar vein, the cities of Coastal Andhra Pradesh in Andhra Pradesh performed exceptionally well, with many centers rating nearly as high as Salaar, whereas the Ceeded districts scored much lower.
The movie is off to a strong start, and the extremely profitable holiday season is still to come. Given the enormous expenditures associated with distribution, it is troubling that the first audience response has been mixed. It will be hoped that the movie does well throughout the Christmas season and covers as much ground as it can.
