Supreme Court Judgment on Article 370: The Supreme Court, in a unanimous judgment delivered today, upheld the Centre’s decision to scrap the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution, which had granted special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

What the Supreme Court said:
Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India, no doubt about it. Constitution of India is superior to Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir. Constitution of India will continue in Jammu and Kashmir, said the Supreme Court. On this day, the Supreme Court said that the decision to abolish Article 370 is constitutionally valid. Along with this, a five-member bench of the Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission of India to complete the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by September 30, 2024. In other words, Jammu and Kashmir will regain the status of the state. On September 5, the Constitutional Bench led by the Chief Justice suspended the verdict. Tight security was imposed across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the verdict.

Narendra Modi commented that today the Supreme Court’s decision to abolish Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir (Article 370 Verdict) is historic. He wrote that the Supreme Court of the country has pointed out that the decision taken by the parliament on August 5, 2019 is constitutional. The Prime Minister said that this verdict is hope, progress and unity for all the residents of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.

The Prime Minister also gave a message to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. In a post on the X-handle, he wrote, ‘I assure the residents of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh that our commitment to fulfill your dreams will stand. We are determined to ensure that all fruits of development and progress reach you and the most backward and marginalized sections of our society affected by Article 370.’Prime Minister Modi claimed that this verdict is not only a verdict in a legal case but also a ray of hope. He also feels that it is a commitment to a brighter future and building a stronger and united India together.
