ICC Rankings 2024: Australia has recaptured the top spot in the Test team rankings after unseating India after their series victory over Pakistan, causing a significant movement in the rankings.
The Australian side, led by Pat Cummins, has been playing outstanding cricket. They have won a number of matches against Pakistan at home, which has been crucial in helping them reclaim the top rank. This includes their historic victory over Rohit Sharma and his team in the World Test Championship last year in England. Their victory had given them a momentary lead.
After a historic victory against South Africa in the second Test match, India dropped one spot in the ICC rankings. But following recent series victories against South Africa and Australia, the Men in Blue maintain their commanding lead at the top of the ODI and T20I team standings.
Kane Williamson of New Zealand continues to lead the individual Test rankings for batsmen, while Indian veteran Ravichandran Ashwin leads the bowling rankings. Right now, Axar Patel is placed fifth, Ashwin is in second place, and Ravindra Jadeja is the top all-rounder in Test cricket.

In the official January 5, 2024, update, the Indian men’s cricket team took back the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI rankings.
The Men’s ODI Team Rankings, formerly known as the ICC ODI Championship, are a system used by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to rank men’s ODI cricket teams internationally.
Once their total points are divided by the number of games they have played, all of the teams are ranked in a table based on their ratings.
Using the analogy of cricket batting averages, the points for winning an ODI match are always higher than the team’s rating, and the points for losing an ODI match are always lower than the rating, decreasing the rating.
The lower-rated team will prevail, and the higher-rated team will lose in a match between two teams with different ratings.
- India has 121 ratings.
- Australia has 117 ratings.
- South Africa has 106 ratings
- Pakistan – 109 ratings
- New Zealand has 102 ratings.
- England has 99 ratings.
- Sri Lanka has 88 ratings.
- Bangladesh has 87 ratings.
- Afghanistan has 84 ratings.
- West Indies has 68 ratings.
Each team’s rating is calculated by taking the total number of points earned and dividing it by the number of games or series played. The result is rounded to the closest whole number. It’s possible to relate the computation to batting average, substituting points for runs scored and match/series total for the number of batter dismissals.
The Twenty20 cricket rating system operated by the International Cricket Council is called the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings. A mathematical formula determines the points that each Twenty20 International (T20I) side receives after a match. A table is used to rank all of the teams according to their respective ratings, which are calculated by dividing each team’s total points by the total number of matches played. To be ranked, a team must have participated in at least six Twenty20 International matches during the preceding three to four years.
- India has 256 ratings.
- England has 252 ratings.
- New Zealand has 251 ratings.
- Pakistan has 250 ratings.
- Australia has 249 ratings.
- South Africa has 245 ratings.
- West Indies has 235 ratings.
- Sri Lanka has 227 ratings.
- Bangladesh has 221 ratings.
- Afghanistan has 219 ratings.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the organization that oversees the annual Twenty20 International (T20I) competition between men’s national teams. The T20 World Cup will hold its ninth edition in 2024. The United States and the West Indies are slated to host it from June 1 to June 29, 2024. It will be the first ICC World Cup competition in which games are held in the US. Having won the previous edition’s championship final against Pakistan, England is the reigning champions.
From 16 teams in the 2022 tournament, there will be 20 teams competing in this year’s event. Apart from the two hosts, the subsequent two teams in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings and the top eight teams from the previous tournament also automatically qualified. Through a regional qualification process, the final eight teams were selected. Qualifying for the T20 World Cup is a first for the United States, Canada, and Uganda.
